Along My Journey There will be times of Chaos And Yet, We Are Not To Be Overwhelmed

O Lord, the chaos sometimes feels so overwhelming, as if I am rolling the weight of the world by my self up a steep mountain. Presently, our nation seems so divided, leading up to the 2024 presidential election.  I’ve been consumed with the daily news briefings.

The fear of missing out pulls me in to listen to one more commentator.  These distractions drain my joy and replaces my priority off of You and onto less important things.

Yesterday, I was reading Psalm 2 where God asks, “Why are the nations in an uproar? Why are the people devising a vain thing?”  A world in chaos is nothing new. For generations, beginning with the fall of man the world has been in an uproar.

Verse 2 of Psalm 2 goes on to say, “ The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed.”  These  world leaders devise these plans, thinking they can depose God.

But God’s reaction is, “He who sits in the heavens and laughs.  The Lord scoffs at them.  He will  speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury.” vs. 4.

So in response to God’s reaction, what should I do? Then, at the end of Psalm 2 the Lord gives us these instructions: In verse 10 1. Show discernment – wisdom 2. Take warning – be on the alert. ; in verse 11 number 3. Worship the Lord with reverence. 4. Do homage – tribute -respect to Jesus – be intentional. Lastly, in verse 12 the promises a reward for responding in this manner by saying, “How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!”

So when chaos surrounds me and I feel overwhelmed, I wrote this prayer inspired by Psalm 2…

“Lord, this world is in an uproar while rulers are mounting up against You. Yet, in spite of all this chaos you are seated on the throne in heaven laughing because You remain in full control possessing all sovereignty.  God, I acknowledge, with all reverence Your only Begotten Son, Jesus. Your Son Jesus whom You have  given Him an inheritance of all the nations to the very ends of the earth.  So Lord, when the chaos tries to overwhelm me, give me discernment.  Awaken my spiritual warning system, may I be alert to the traps set by the enemy.  May I have a daily discipline of preparing my myself in holiness as I go deep in worship.  And finally, may my adoration for Jesus do homage and respect to King Jesus.”   In Jesus’ name.   Amen.

I pray this post will enrich your Journey, especially in seasons of chaos.

Joyfully on this Journey,

Beverly
