Daily, the Lord wants us to journey into His Secret Place. A place where we shut out the world and spend time in His presence. It’s hard to find the time to REST in His presence when we are bombarded by so many distractions: alerts on our phones and watches and an endless amount of emails, video games, apps and cable channels.
Earlier this year, I began the habit of reading one Psalm every morning and then writing a prayer inspired by that day’s Psalm. This discipline has been so refreshing for my soul.
I want to share with you the prayer I wrote inspired after reading Psalm 92, I titled it A Prayer in His Secret Place …“O Lord, You tell me in Your Word it is good to give thanks to You and to sing praises to Your name. To declare in the morning Your lovingkindness and in the evening your faithfulness.” I ask You Lord to help me make these Holy Habits a part of my life daily journey. Give me creative words to express my thanks to You. Open my heart and mind to new songs of praise to You. I hope my worship makes You smile. Remind me in the mornings of Your lovingkindness and before I fall asleep of Your acts of faithfulness throughout my day. Thank You for the gift of every breath. Thank You for Your faithful beauty of commanding the sun to rise and the sun to set.
Lord, in Psalm 92, I am reminded of the endless benefits of dwelling in Your Secret Place… You declare in vs 4 You are the One who makes me glad; in vs 10 You are the One who gives me great strength, like that of a wild ox and You are the One who anoints me with fresh oil. Wow God! When I wait upon You in Your Secret Place – You are the One filling me up to run strong throughout my day!
The benefits of dwelling in Your Secret Place continue on… in vs 12 “You say, the righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, he will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” But the secret as to how I will flourish and grow comes with the condition of dwelling in a certain place, for in vs 13 You say, “Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.” In other words, for me to flourish and grow I need to be planted in Your presence – In Your Secret Place. Daily, I need to be watered and nourished by You.
And when I choose to spend time in Your Secret Place declaring my gratitude, and that You are upright, You are My rock and in You there is no unrighteousness, then You promise vs 14 “ I will still yield fruit in my old age and I shall be full of sap and very green.”
So Lord, it’s on the calendar of my heart, to start every day in Your Secret Place and to walk the day’s journey in Your Presence” Amen
